Six years ago, Captain Mike and I began a FREE lifestyle journey--Intermittent Fasting with GOD or I.F. with GOD: Lose Inches and Weight, Feel Great, and Honor GOD, which I hope to publish soon. In the meantime, unbeknownst to me, in 2025, my fifth child, Deahna King Romero, a lovely working wife and mother of three, ages five and under, began I.F. with GOD. This is her powerful story.
The above link was written in The Frugal Catholic in 2023, which is what started Deahna on her fasting journey.
Additionally, please share this story with those who might benefit from it. The enemy has long desired for us all to DIE from dieting. I.F. with GOD offers life through a LIFEstyle of fasting with faith in Our Father's will.

1. What made you decide to give Intermittent Fasting WITH GOD a try?
I decided to try intermittent fasting because I felt exhausted physically, emotionally, and spiritually. As a working 29-year-old mother of three children, all under the age of five, I was constantly pouring myself out for everyone else, leaving very little for myself. I had tried dieting before, but nothing ever stuck, and I felt stuck in a cycle of starting over. When I heard about intermittent fasting paired with faith—fasting with God, not just for weight loss ---it felt different. It felt purposeful. I wasn’t just chasing a smaller number on the scale; I was longing for discipline, clarity, and a deeper reliance on God.
2. Were you able to lose the weight you hoped to, and how hard was it? Diets can be awful.
Yes, I was able to lose the weight I hoped to and, more importantly, I gained peace and confidence along the way. It wasn’t easy, especially at first. Diets are awful because they often make you feel deprived and defeated. This was hard in a different way. The hunger came, but instead of fighting it with willpower alone, I leaned into prayer. Some days were harder than others, but it didn’t feel punishing. It felt refining. Over time, the hunger became quieter, and the mental obsession with food loosened its grip.
3. How and what did you do in past efforts, as a working mom of three young children, to lose and keep weight off?
In the past, I tried everything, counting calories, cutting carbs, quick fixes, and exercising when I was already exhausted. I would lose some weight, but it always came back because my heart wasn’t in it, and my life was chaotic. Between work, pregnancies, sleepless nights, and caring for little ones, consistency felt impossible. I relied on my own strength, and when that ran out, so did my progress. Nothing ever truly addressed my emotional eating or my tendency to turn to food for comfort instead of God.
4. How did you find Intermittent Fasting with God different? Did you lift hunger up to Him more?
This was the biggest difference. When hunger hit, instead of reaching for food, I reached for God. I prayed more short prayers, honest prayers, sometimes desperate ones. I asked Him to help me sit with the discomfort, to remind me that He is my provider. Hunger became a signal to pray, not a problem to solve immediately. I felt God meet me in those moments. The hunger pangs didn’t control me; they reminded me to surrender. I truly believe God used fasting to strengthen my faith as much as my body.

5. What was and is your fasting/eating schedule to reach 16/8? Do you see this as a long-term lifestyle? Why?
I didn’t jump straight into 18/6. I started gently 12/12, then 14/10, then 16/8. Once my body adjusted, 18/6 felt natural, not forced. I usually fast overnight and into the late morning, then eat within a six-hour window that works for my family and work schedule. Now my husband, Mateo, has joined me in this journey of fasting. I do see this as a long-term lifestyle because it feels sustainable and freeing. It’s not about restriction; it’s about structure. It helps me be mindful, disciplined, and present, and it leaves room for grace.
6. What has happened during this journey, and would you recommend it to others? Why?
During this journey, I’ve lost physical weight, but more than that, I’ve gained self-control, clarity, and confidence. I feel lighter in every sense of the word. I’m more patient with my children, more intentional with my time, and more aware of God’s presence in my daily life. I would absolutely recommend intermittent fasting to other men and women, especially when done with God. Not because it’s easy, but because it’s transformative. When you invite God into the process, fasting becomes an act of worship, not just a wellness tool.
7. Last Thoughts
This is a sustainable way to go down in size. But not a quick fix. Even if you go out on a weekend, you can have a beer and still stay consistent. I was down five pounds in the first month, and by the second month, I.F. with GOD was the new standard that helped me mentally reach the goal at each step.
In the past, with KETO, I'd lose a ton of water weight, then start losing inches. It was so fast, and the body was changing so quickly. KETO was also super restrictive, and I often felt that when I had a cheat day, my body would hold on to the fat. There were also days of KETO sickness--nausea, worn out, and tired, and I'd always have to make the kids a separate dinner. It was super restrictive and also on the people around you.
A woman has so much emphasis on her body, and I had ZERO expectations going into I.F. with GOD, for I weighed 175 pounds after the twins. Now, after practicing I.F. with GOD as a lifestyle, not a diet, my yoga pants are loose, the kids and my husband don't have to eat KETO anymore, and I am not having to take extra steps in food prep. When I get up in the morning, going to the gym now is consistent, and it is easier to push harder.
Finally, two tips. I found it was better to weigh only once a week, on the same day each week, rather than daily, since weight fluctuates from day to day.
And the other tip is when you are cold from fasting, take a shot of MCT oil. It helps a lot and doesn't interfere with ketosis from fasting.
The end result from Intermittent Fasting with GOD is that I am down to a size 4-6, and this is a great way to live and be your best version. Give it a try. You won't regret it, and your faith will grow. Best of all, it works, is free, and comes with divine assistance. Doesn't get much better than that.
Matthew 6: 16-18-- "And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward."
